ScaleMonkeyT-Bucket

The time has finally come – after a long development phase, our project of a true-to-original Ford T23 Bucket on a scale of 1:5 is starting. In close cooperation with California Custom Roadsters in Los Angeles, we were able to build our model to scale based on their plans.
We carefully considered which materials and manufacturing processes would be most suitable and ultimately decided to keep it conventional, like a real vehicle. So we build a frame from steel profile tubes, tubular steel axle beams, welded wheel suspensions and a fiberglass body. This gives our model a realistic and typically purist appearance.

The model data at a glance

Length: 685 mm
Width: 405 mm
Height: 290 mm
Motor: Cison V8 small block - 44 ccm
Weight (ready to drive): ??? (that remains to be seen)

In the following report, we will present the manufacture and construction of our T-Bucket in detail. This gives you the opportunity to participate in every step of the creation of our model and gives you exciting insights into the technical details of the vehicle. Our report will be published in several sections documenting the progress of construction. So if you are interested, just follow our posts regularly and stay up to date.

The Frame

The construction of our T-Bucket starts with the frame, as with any car. This consists of carefully prepared square tubes, which are cut and welded to the appropriate scale according to the original plans. When it came to the question of how to weld something this small in high quality and true to the original, we turned to the company Lampert Werktechnik and decided to purchase a PUK U5 welding machine. I have to say, this device is just great fun!

The Engine

The ScaleMonkey T-Bucket was specially developed for the Cison V8 OHV engine. We chose this engine because it is currently one of the most realistic and powerful engines on the market at this scale. The compact 8-cylinder 4-stroke engine is inspired by the 440 Chevrolet V8 and has a displacement of 44cc with approx. 4.8 hp. This is more than sufficient for our project to realize a realistic hot rod.

For the T-Bucket’s engine, we have of course designed suitable add-on parts and manufactured them with precise craftsmanship. This includes an individually designed custom air cleaner in the characteristic Gasser style. This air filter has a high-performance filter element that hardly affects the air flow and thus ensures optimum engine aeration. A brass water cooler with 26 pipes with a total length of 1.8 m was developed for the cooling system. With this cooler and the radiator attached to the motor, operation is possible for approx. 10 minutes at average speed.
The side pipe exhaust system designed by ScaleMonkey is a real eye-catcher. The eight manifold pipes are all approximately the same length and lead to an elegant side pipe. This achieves the same dynamic pressure and resonance for each cylinder, creating a powerful V8 sound for a model engine.

To be continued...

Precision is no coincidence, it is our goal.
